The vineyards of Alvarez de Toledo are located in the "Gold Mile" of
El Bierzo's wine country. Exceptionally orientated terrains with the
best soils of the entire region. The area surrounds the towns of
Villafranca del Bierzo and Valtuille de Arriba, the most traditional
production areas of the Mencia grape variety for red wines with an
altitude range of 420 to 500 meters above sea level.
Plants are 40 to 60 years old Mencia vines. Their reduced production
of bunches maximizes quality. We harvest them manually so our wines
are loyal to the terroir of our region, el Bierzo.

The local variety of grape, Mencia, is perfectly suited to both its
climate and environment. The ancestral use of this grape, generation
after generation, has resulted in a natural selection, making Mencia
the most suitable variety for producing red wines of great character.
The Godello variety for white wines is highly aromatic and has an
exceptional quality making balanced wines with a great fruity and
floral bouquet.
